Barcode

Barcodes are machine-readable data represented in 1D (vertical lines) and 2D (data matrix). As well as the familiar barcode labels, the technology also includes DPM (direct part marking) where your assets are marked permanently to be tracked throughout their entire lifecycle. These are low-cost solutions, ideal for lower value and/or high-volume items.

RFID

RFID (radio frequency identification) enables data to be read and captured wirelessly using radio waves. Both individual and multiple tags can be read simultaneously from a distance and without being in direct line-of-sight, allowing for fast, cost-effective item locating and tracking through passive RFID. For more high-value assets, active RFID (powered by a battery) can be used as well.

RTLS, Sensing and GPS

RTLS (real-time locations systems), remote condition sensing, and GPS (global positioning systems) are more complex integrated technologies that identify exact geographical locations – both indoors and outdoors – using a combination of radio frequency (RF) and non-RF technologies.

Bluetooth Low Energy

Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) beacon technology is a secure, fast, less costly tracking alternative to RFID, WiFi and RTLS – utilising any computer workstation or mobile device with Bluetooth capability as a zone for BLE tags. BLE tags are often tough, quick to deploy, have an extended battery life and better value for money in the long-term as compared to RFID and RTLS.
