P&O Global eyes regional expansion

P&O Global Technologies Sdn Bhd (P&O Global), an integrated information technology (IT) solutions and services provider, plans to expands in the region within the next couple of years as part of its diversification efforts.

Its chief executive officer Chan Thye Seng said that the company recently branched out to the US and Thailand and will make further inroads into neighboring countries in future.

“For now, we want to focus in the country. We are working closely with out clients in web-based security systems solutions.

"Our project with the police will be used as a test bed for further expansion to put us on the regional map,” Chan told Business Times in Kuala Lumpur after the launch of the Surveillance Camera Solution for Anti-Crime project officiated by Human Resource Minister Datuk Mr. Fong Chang Onn in Kuala Lumpur on Saturday.

P&O Global has been commissioned to set up a mesh network for 14 wireless surveillance cameras along Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan Ampang, Jalan Imbi, Jalan Perak and Jalan Yap Kwan Seng.

The network will enable patrolling police personnel either in cars, motorcycles, walking the beat or at police control room to view the cameras via their palmtop, laptop or wireless handheld equipment as a preemptive measure against crime.

The technology, which uses 802.11 byte technology has been around for a few decades that can be used at banks, car parks, schools, hotels, airports, ports, shopping complexes, power stations, refineries homes and others.

The IT company provides solutions in insurance and banking software, telephony, disaster recovery, education and training, outsourcing, networking and customer relationship management and high-speed wireless Internet access.

Established for the past 25 years, P&O Global is a wholly-owned subsidiary of one of Malaysia’s largest general insurers Pacific & Orient Berhad, which has been listed on the main board if Bursa Malaysia Berhad since 1995.

P&O Global has expanded from creating cost effective software packages from within the insurance industry to banks, finance companies, legal firms, trading companies and corporate clients.

For financial year ended September 2004, P&O Global made a revenue of RM13.8 million, while its parent company made a revenue of over RM228.7 million.
